Rangers Colts Win the Glasgow Cup
The visitors started the game brightly without really threatening Mason Munn’s goal and the first real chance came at the other end just before the quarter hour mark. Cole McKinnon in possession on the right passed inside to Archie Stevens who moved the ball on to Aaron Lyall, he cut back on to his right foot but was denied by a fine save from Sam Kane. Within a minute Cammy Bruce broke on the left before passing inside to Aaron Healy who’s shot was diverted over by Johnly Yfeko’s block.
Just past the 25-minute mark in the first half, Lucas McCormick beat Zander Hutton to a long ball on the left that found its way into the box, but his shot was direct at Mason Munn. After being forced to substitute Josh Gentles for Archie Stevens after 34 minutes, the sixteen-year-old gave Rangers the lead in just 60 seconds. Cole McKinnon crossed the ball after Paul Nsio, on the right hand byline, laid it back, and Josh Gentles just managed to put a header past the goalie.
Bailey Rice changed the play to Zander Hutton on the right five minutes before halftime. He passed inside to Paul Nsio, who moved the ball on to Bailey Rice, whose left foot shot deflected off the keeper’s right hand.
James Graham attempted a long shot from about 25 yards in the first minute of the second half, which Sam Kane easily stopped. Five minutes later, Alex Fairlie sprinted clean into the right side of the Rangers box, squared to the unmarked Lucas McCormick, and Queens looked certain to pull level, but his effort went wide of Mason Munn’s left hand post.
After Arron Lyall stole the ball from goalkeeper Sam Kane inside the penalty area on minute fifty-seven, James Graham attempted a poor shot that missed the goal. Just after the hour, Rangers extended their lead when Arron Lyall intercepted a pass that Sam Kane attempted to make. The goalkeeper saved the ball at the attacker’s feet, but James Graham quickly grabbed the loose ball to score.
A few minutes later, Rangers extended their lead when James Graham dribbled into the area and past the goalie with a cool finish after Paul Nsio on the right side of the box passed inside to him. Paul Nsio finished a nice Rangers passing move on the left side of the byline. His center deflected to Arron Lyall, but Sam Kane dived to his left to stop him.
The next opportunity came when Sam Kane deflected Darren McInally’s shot wide of the far post after he had advanced past a defender and deep into the right side of the box. Zander Hutton managed Bailey Rice’s switch of play with two minutes left, setting up Tyler Pasnik to beat Sam Kane from the edge of the last opportunity arrived from the opposite side. Joe Smith put Rocco Hickey-Fugaccia to the right hand byline, and his shot across the goal almost missed Ross McLean, who was charging in.
