In the fall, the Carolina Panthers will host more high school football games at Bank of America Stadium.
High school football will be played at Bank of America Stadium, home of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, for the second year in a row. There will be two games in the second Keep Pounding High School Classic, which begins on Thursday, August 22. At 4:00 p.m., regional power Myers Park will take on North Carolina 4A regional runner-up Independence. N.C. 4A public schools champion Weddington will take on state champion Providence Day of independent schools at 8 p.m.
Providence Day emerged victorious from both the Carolinas Top 25 rankings, which showcased the top teams in North and South Carolina, and The Observer’s Sweet 16 regional vote. Weddington ranked second in each survey. Each school has chosen a celebrity captain for two coin flips that will take place during the meeting to decide which school gets to wear its home jersey in each game. The news conference is scheduled for Tuesday at Bank of America Stadium. These captains are Hakeem Nicks (Independence), Captain Munnerlyn (Myers Park), Ikem Ekwonu (Providence Day), and Thomas Davis (Weddington). Davis was a standout linebacker with the Panthers in the past.
