SO SAD: major factor in the Raiders’ decision to steal…
Was Magic Johnson a major factor in the Raiders’ decision to steal Kliff Kingsbury?
One of the most bizarre moves of the NFL offseason was made by Kliff Kingsbury. Kingsbury had seemed destined to take over as the Raiders’ new offensive coordinator, but he suddenly decided to take the same role with the Washington Commanders.
Even though there has been a lot of conjecture regarding the reason behind the switch, Raiders coach Antonio Pierce brought up an unexpected name: Magic Johnson.
Pierce made the suggestion that Johnson, a part of the Commanders’ ownership group, stepped in at the last minute to bring Kingsbury to Washington during an appearance on “The Pivot Podcast.”
That’s the one thing I learned, until you put pen to paper. Just like the lesson in unrestricted choice,” Pierce declared. You’re being recruited by teams. Things are happening. Hehe, Magic Johnson is not that bad. I believe he has a little more to give. I can accept losing to Magic if that’s the case.
Pierce is very likely telling the truth, it turns out. Before the Super Bowl, there was a little-known allegation from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that said Johnson had played a significant role in stepping in and telling Kingsbury that he might have a place to land in Washington. According to a different story from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Commanders were prepared to extend Kingsbury’s contract by one year.In any event, Johnson appears to have been a major factor in the Raiders’ decision to steal Kingsbury. Maybe this is the meaning of Ben Johnson’s alleged disparagement of Washington’s ownership, calling them “basketball guys.”
