FOX 9 MINNEAPOLIS – The tight end T.J. Hockenson of the Minnesota Vikings stated on Monday that his surgery to repair his ruptured ACL in his right knee was successful.
According to team officials, Dr. Neal ElAttrache of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, California, oversaw the procedure.
On Christmas Eve, at U.S. Bank Stadium, Hockenson was hurt in the third quarter of the Vikings’ 30-24 loss to the Detroit Lions. Hockenson was taken out of the game by Lions defensive back Kerby Joseph after he was struck low on the play that ended his 58-yard touchdown streak with four catches. Hockenson’s ACL surgery had to wait until his MCL healed.
Hockenson, 26, had five touchdowns and 960 yards from 95 catches at the end of the season. He was only five receptions short of his first 100-catch season and only 40 yards short of his first 1,000-yard season.
At training camp in late August, he inked a $66 million four-year contract extension. Given the seriousness of the injury and the remaining two games in the season, Hockenson won’t be able to participate in the Vikings’ offseason training regimen. Additionally, he will probably be restricted during training camp, required minicamp, and structured team activities.
CHOICE OF VIKINGS FULLBACK C.J. HAM FOR PRO BOWL GAMES
C.J. Ham, a fullback for the Vikings, has been chosen to play in the 2024 Pro Bowl Games. He will take over for Kyle Juszczyk, who is playing for the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl.
Ham is making his second trip to the Pro Bowl in his career. He will be accompanied by long snapper Andrew DePaola and edge rusher Danielle Hunter. Pro Football Focus reports that Ham led NFC fullbacks in pass block grade and total offensive grade this season, participated in all 17 games, and served as team captain. He had the second-best run blocking grade in the NFC.
Week 4 against Carolina marked Ham’s 100th game with the Vikings, making him the second-most successful fullback in team history. Additionally, he is only the fourth offensive undrafted player in Vikings history to have appeared in 100+ games.
The Pro Bowl Games will take place at Orlando, Florida’s Camping World Stadium on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
