Following the departure of Jim Harbaugh and several of his assistants, the Michigan football coaching staff is undergoing a significant transition. New head coach Sherrone Moore is now focusing on a coach who will play in this year’s Super Bowl in order to rebuild the staff. Joe Cullen, the defensive line coach for the Kansas City Chiefs, is reportedly being considered by Michigan to take over as defensive coordinator, per CBS Sports. However, Cullen is also being considered as a defensive coordinator prospect by the Commanders and Seahawks, two other NFL clubs, so the Wolverines have some competition.

Minter’s defense was ranked No. 1 in college football during the team’s most recent push for a national championship. Cullen started his career at Richmond as the defensive coordinator in college.

Cullen played defensive assistant for a while at Illinois before joining Detroit in the NFL and spending time with Cleveland, Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, and Baltimore.
