BRUTALLY NEWS: Raiders sign a contract on Quarterback…

Raiders On Contract: Quarterback Anthony Brown

Raiders Under Contract: QB Anthony Brown

Anthony Brown, the quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders, is among the less experienced players on the team’s roster from last month’s reserve/future contract signings. Brown has only appeared in two NFL regular season games, one of which was a start. He made that start for the Baltimore Ravens against the Cincinnati Bengals in the team’s last 2022 regular season game, throwing for 286 yards. Baltimore signed the 25-year-old quarterback in 2022 as an undrafted free agent. He had played for Oregon for two seasons, starting every game during his final year as a student-athlete. During that season, Brown rushed for 151 yards and nine touchdowns in addition to throwing for 2,989 yards and eighteen touchdowns.

Brown played two active seasons and three years at Boston College before moving to Oregon. Brown spent his entire Ravens season on and off the active roster. In the three 2023 preseason games that Baltimore would play, he would amass 218 throwing yards, two passing touchdowns, two interceptions, and 93 rushing yards on 14 carries.

Back in September, Brown was cut by the Ravens. Brown has a $915,000 deal that runs for a year. Although he is unlikely to play a big part for the Raiders in the future, having him in the quarterback room could be beneficial. Right now, Brown is the Las Vegas quarterback with the greatest degree of mobility. Maybe the Raiders could send him in occasionally to run off direct snaps in goal-line or short yardage scenarios, similar to how they did with former quarterback Marcus Mariota in the 2021 campaign.

What the Raiders decide to do at quarterback this offseason will primarily determine whether or not Brown makes the 53-man roster. The NFL Scouting Combine will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, from February 27 to March 4, 2024. The NFL Draft is scheduled for April 25–27, 2024, in Detroit, Michigan. The No. 13 overall pick is presently in the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders.
