Dec. 30: Braves acquired INF Vaughn Grissom for LHP Chris Sale
Grissom is a young shortstop with promise that the Red Sox sent to Atlanta in exchange for Sale, the veteran, in order to give him a chance to take over at second base.

In order to facilitate the deal, Sale, a seven-time All-Star, surrendered his no-trade rights. His absence means that Boston’s starting rotation is still a work in progress. Dec. 29: RHP Lucas Giolito signs a $38.5 million, two-year contract.
Giolito’s two-year contract extension with the Red Sox is a major addition to the rotation, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. The agreement has an opt-out after 2024; the club has not yet verified this.

December 13: RHP Cooper Criswell reaches a one-year contract.
With the addition of Criswell, who threw 10 games for the Rays in 2023, the Red Sox added some depth to their bullpen. The right-hander struck out 27 and walked 11 in 33 innings while giving up 23 runs on 40 hits.

Dec. 11: The roster for 2024 Spring Training includes seven non-roster invitees.
