Two more Michigan administrative employees—one of whom was responsible for collaborating directly with the team’s edge rushers—are leaving for the NFL.

According to a source with knowledge of the transaction, Dylan Roney, a graduate assistant who has been credited with supporting defensive line coach Mike Elston over the previous two seasons, is anticipated to join Jim Harbaugh’s staff at the Los Angeles Chargers, according to MLive.
Behind the scenes, Roney was a favorite; Elston praised the defensive end from Plymouth, Michigan, who had previously played for Ferris State, for his work with the edge rushers. Although Roney’s position on the Chargers’ staff is currently unknown, he would report to defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, who has not yet been made official, and strength coach Ben Herbert.

Jay Harbaugh, the former special teams coordinator, is also joining the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL.

According to 247Sports, Doug Mallory, a defensive analyst from Michigan, will soon take over as the defensive backs coach for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League. Mallory worked with coordinator Jesse Minter at Michigan for the previous three seasons, assisting with opponent preparation.
Mallory, an alumnus of Michigan who played for the Michigan Wolters from 1984 to 1987, was employed by the Atlanta Falcons for six seasons between 2015 and 2020. From 2011 to 2013, he served as Indiana’s co-defensive coordinator and associate head coach. Prior to that, he was employed by New Mexico, LSU, Oklahoma State, Maryland, Western Kentucky, and Army.

Recently, Michigan advertised a position as a football analyst. After hiring Kirk Campbell as offensive coordinator, Grant Newsome as offensive line coach, J.B. Brown as special teams coordinator, and Justin Tress as strength coach, new head coach Sherrone Moore is currently assembling his staff.
