BRUTALLY NEWS: Michigan Head Coach Sherrone Moore Announce the date of first Black.
Sherrone Moore: “Being the First Black Head Coach in Michigan Football History Is an Honor”
For the first time since taking over as head football coach at Michigan, Sherrone Moore spoke to the media on Saturday.
Being the first Black head coach in school history, the 37-year-old described the position as “an honor.”
Moore is also the youngest head coach for the Wolverines since Bump Elliott, who was hired in 1957 at the age of 34, according to Tony Paul of the Detroit News.
Moore stated in his first speech that he “can’t think of a better place to do it than the University of Michigan” and that he had “prepared my entire coaching career for this moment.”
He concluded his opening remarks by quoting a member of the Harbaugh family.
Moore’s potential in the top position was partially shown in the previous season. In his four games as interim head coach while Jim Harbaugh served two separate bans for possible NCAA rules breaches, he went 4-0.
Due to suspected recruiting infractions, Moore was also suspended by the university for the start of the regular season versus East Carolina.
Moore, who played offensive line in his playing career, became the tight ends coach at Michigan in 2018. Beginning with the 2021 campaign, he was appointed offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator.
Many players recommended Moore to take over as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers after Harbaugh left the Wolverines, including All-American guard Zak Zinter.
After Harbaugh exited the team with a 15-0 record and the school’s first national championship in 26 years, Moore has a major task ahead of him. At any level, this is his first experience as a head coach.
Twelve players from the national championship squad, including quarterback J.J. McCarthy and running back Blake Corum, have entered the 2024 NFL draft.
Moore should have little trouble maintaining the program’s status among the best in the country, especially considering the excitement displayed by a number of Wolverines players upon his hire.
