Developer releases renderings of possible new White Sox stadium - CBS Chicago

Chicago On Wednesday, Related Midwest unveiled artist images of The 78, a planned South Loop complex that would house the White Sox’s future ballpark.

The Illinois Sports Facilities Authority owns Guaranteed Rate Field, which is located in the Bridgeport neighborhood. The team’s current lease there expires after the 2029 season. This brand-new, baseball-only stadium would be the hub of a plethora of entertainment opportunities in the surrounding area and has been likened to the Braves’ Truist Park at The Battery in Atlanta.

In addition to a perspective of downtown, the five drawings of the ballpark included lovely views of the Chicago River and Riverwalk, which are close to the proposed location of the stadium. Another depiction of a stadium included a huge TV board integrated into the structure along with giant glass windows.

A representative for Related Midwest stated in a statement released with the renderings that “the development would be a catalyst for the creation of Chicago’s next great neighborhood, create tens of thousands of permanent and construction jobs, and bring a state-of-the-art White Sox ballpark to the South Loop riverfront.”

The graphics included ideas for revitalizing the neighborhood around 35th & Shields, home of the White Sox. According to Related Midwest, it would be a redesigned campus with bustling streets and new housing options, with the possibility of converting the existing Guaranteed Rate into a soccer stadium.

A representative stated in a second statement accompanying the renderings, “Related Midwest has a long history of working in communities, even though we do not own the land at 35th & Shields.” “We assembled conceptual ideas, cognizant that there would be a thorough community process to determine the best use for this land, since we knew there would be questions regarding the use of 35th St.”
