Former Penn State defensive tackle signed with the Eagles.
Defensive tackle PJ Mustipher, a free agent, was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday, the team announced.
Mustipher, who will turn 26 in November, attended Penn State to play collegiate football. He played in 50 games over five years with the Nittany Lions, recording three sacks and 11 tackles for loss.
Last year, Mustipher signed a rookie free agent contract with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted player. Despite not being added to their active roster, he remained on the practice squad.
That is, until the early part of December, when the New Orleans Saints stole him from the Broncos. In four games overall, Mustipher played 42 defensive snaps. He did not record any further numbers but managed four tackles (one solo, three assists).
The Eagles were able to take advantage of Mustipher because neither the Saints nor the Broncos chose to re-sign him. Philly gains more depth at nose tackle with his signing. Although Mustipher’s chances of making the playing squad are probably slim, training camp will provide him an opportunity to show his mettle.
On Philly’s roster, Mustipher joins former Penn State players Saquon Barkley, Brandon Smith, and Zech McPhearson before to his move to Texas Tech.
