Arteta sets sights on acquiring a £64 million striker for Arsenal as his main target rather than Toney or Osimhen
Arsenal’s new “main target,” Evanilson, a standout player for Porto, has reportedly been identified as someone they have “set their sights” on signing.
In recent months, there has been constant speculation that Arsenal is looking to add a striker to their lineup. Ivan Toney of Brentford and Victor Osimhen of Napoli have recently been strongly associated with the Premier League’s biggest clubs.
Mikel Arteta and Arsenal director Edu took a risk when they paid almost £65 million to acquire Kai Havertz from Chelsea, even though they could have spent that money on a new striker.
Arsenal’s problems have not been alleviated by the fact that Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have combined to score just eight goals in 36 Premier League appearances this season across all competitions. Given their financial situation this month, Arsenal is more likely to sign a new striker in the summer, and Porto star Evanilson is reportedly on their radar. The 24-year-old has 16 goals and five assists in his 23 appearances for Porto across all competitions this season, and he has 51 goals and 19 assists in his 134 games for the Portuguese giants. Football Transfers is reporting that “Arsenal has set their sights on signing Evanilson as Arteta looks to boost his side’s attacking impetus for next season.
Given his enormous potential, many at the North London club believe Evanilson would be well worth the money, even if Arsenal will have to pay roughly €75 million (£64 million) for the striker.

The reason why Premier League icon Alan Shearer believes Toney “could be the answer” for Arsenal is outlined in this report.
Shearer commented for BBC Sport, “I still think they need a quality center-forward to go to that next level, and go on and win the Premier League.
He added: “I thought Brentford’s Ivan Toney could be the answer, with the wide players Arsenal have got and the service they would give him, but it doesn’t look like they are going to do any business for Toney this month, or make any other major forward signings before the window closes. “Arsenal are still creating chances and I don’t think that has ever been an issue for them but, whereas last season more players were chipping in with goals, this time the numbers are not as good from their forward players, particularly in the league.
