Giants seem likely to give Cor’Dale Flott his first opportunity at CB2.
Cor’Dale Flott appears to be the New York Giants’ top choice to start at second boundary cornerback, replacing 2023 first-round selection Deonte Banks.
In the 70th round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Giants selected cornerback Andru Phillips with the third overall pick. Although Phillips can play both inside and outside, general manager Joe Schoen stated that Phillips would start the season in the slot after choosing him.
Phillips stated on Friday that he would much rather play in the slot.
Phillips stated, “I can play both, but the nickel position is my preference.” “I recall that when I was a child, nickel was practically frowned upon. It’s like shoving a guy in there. particularly given the current state of the game and the amount of passing that occurs in both college and the league. I wanted to play nickel the entire time I was in Kentucky.
It wasn’t until my junior year that I was truly given the chance. As soon as I had the chance, I kind of liked it and took it. It seemed to be who I was. I put everything I had since that’s what I did best.
When questioned on Saturday on the second boundary cornerback position, head coach Brian Daboll stated he has “a lot of confidence” in Flott.
Flott, a 2022 third-round selection from LSU, has participated in 27 games over the course of two seasons with 13 starts.
