This rookie quarterback for Michigan might have a big impact right away in 2024.
After winning a national title, Michigan football still has a lot of key players on both sides of the ball. But the NFL is going to cut a handful of players from the offense.
In order for the Wolverines to win the championship again in 2024, their defense must remain unmatched while their attack settles into a groove. and the entry of new participants.
The skill positions are largely unoccupied, despite the fact that many players—especially those on the offensive line—have been patiently waiting for their turn. There’s opportunity for every kid who can come in and create plays, even with a few prominent returnees like running back Donovan Edwards and junior tight end Colston Loveland. And first-year players are included in that.
One Michigan player topped the list of top freshmen in college football who might have an immediate impact, according to ESPN: running back Jordan Marshall.
Blake Corum, a standout running back who led the FBS in rushing touchdowns in 2023, is leaving Michigan. Reentering the game are Donovan Edwards, Kalel Mullings, and Cole Cabana, who finished No. 117 in the 2023 ESPN 300. Marshall, who was named Ohio’s Mr. Football winner, rushed for 1,550 yards and 17 touchdowns last season. He also had 394 receiving yards and four touchdown receptions. The running game is the cornerstone of the Wolverines’ attack, which employed several backs in 2017. Marshall might play a part as Michigan looks to replace Corum.
Of course, Marshall is a top player, but that is a difficult running back area to penetrate. Given his skill set, he could definitely see the field early, much like Zach Charbonnet did in 2019. This is true even if there are several players ahead of him on the depth chart.
If Michigan is to find offensive success in 2024, it almost certainly will be because it continues to lean on and have a dominant run game — especially considering there’s no surety as to who will start at quarterback. If Marshall comes in and makes an instant impact, while Edwards and Mullings take steps forward, that could go a long way towards winning the conference a fourth straight year and more.
