Poveda signs: Reasonable last-minute substitutions Middlesbrough FC ought to make an effort to

Middlesbrough in advanced talks to sign Leeds forward Sam Greenwood

With less than a week left in the transfer window, Middlesbrough might be searching for a last-minute deal.

Liam Cullen is a capable forward in the Championship who has a contract expiring at Swansea City; Middlesbrough may want to sign him in the summer.

Middlesbrough’s midfield might benefit from the long-term option and cover that Cardiff City midfielder Andy Rinomhota offers.
Ian Poveda, a winger for Leeds United, is out of contract at the end of the season, therefore Middlesbrough may be able to get him for a very cheap price.

Middlesbrough might be trying to bolster its roster at the last minute in order to make some moves before the January transfer window closes.

With just two acquisitions completed so far this month, Michael Carrick’s team has had a rather quiet transfer window. Luke Thomas has signed, Luke Ayling arrived on loan from Leeds United, and Finn Azaz, who was returned from his loan at Plymouth Argyle, joined the team permanently.

Midweek saw Carrick’s team eliminated from the Carabao Cup when Chelsea trounced them 6-1 at Stamford Bridge. Even though the loss was embarrassing, they may have gained attention and possibly even signed new players if they had played live on Sky during the cup semi-finals.

Despite having a lackluster season in the Championship, Boro is still very much in the running for the playoffs. Their final place this season may be determined by a few late additions.

The potential last-minute additions that Middlesbrough could make this month are listed below.

Swansea City’s contract with Welsh international Liam Cullen expires in the summer.

Over the last 18 months or so, the 24-year-old has established himself as a reliable forward at the Championship level and is a fixture in Swansea’s starting lineup.

This season, Cullen has made 27 league appearances for Swansea, contributing four goals and four assists to Luke Williams’ team.

While he might not be the most gifted player, Michael Carrick would respect his work ethic and consider him to be a reliable choice at this level.

He has the potential to grow as a young player and score goals frequently at this level. Boro should keep an eye on him over the coming days given his age and contractual circumstances, and Swansea might try to cash in if contract talks have come to a standstill.

Due to the Bluebirds’ depth in the middle of the pitch, Andy Rinomhota, a midfielder for Cardiff City, has lost favour under Erol Bulut this season despite being a good performer at the Championship level.

With just 26 years old and 167 Championship appearances under his belt, the former Reading player could be a long-term option in case Hayden Hackney decides to leave, Jonny Howson decides to hang up his boots, and Lewis O’Brien returns to Nottingham Forest. He could also provide cover in an already strong department.

With Cardiff reduced to the bare minimum, Rinomhota has recently returned to the team. However, with Wales captain Aaron Ramsey expected to return in the coming weeks, the Bluebirds might be content to let the player go this month for a low price.

Although his contract expires in June 2025, Cardiff might be open to selling him this month for a reduced price in order to raise some money.

Ian Poveda, a winger for Leeds United, may be a good addition for Michael Carrick’s team. His contract at Elland Road expires at the end of the current campaign.

Poveda, who is only 23 years old, was a very gifted young player who played youth football for teams like Barcelona, Chelsea, and Manchester City.

Despite his history of ailments, Boro might potentially acquire a good deal if they make a move for the Colombian international in the last days of the transfer window.

Given that he appears to have no future at the team and has only played 144 Championship minutes this season, one would have assumed Daniel Farke would be glad to get him off the payroll.

A right-winger of Poveda’s caliber may be especially useful for Boro, as the club only has one true right-winger in Isaiah Jones. Poveda’s inclination to cut in onto his left foot offers a change of pace from Jones.
